A little bit of Dutch in Ghana

18 december 2017 - Accra, Ghana

In Ghana we visited a Dutch school! The school provides lessons to teach the Dutch language and culture. The woman who worked as a teacher at the school told us that she is the only teacher at the school and she regularly received volunteers from Holland. When we visited the school there was even a volunteer there, this was a Dutch girl who had a gap year and decided to visit her uncle who worked in Ghana. The children who went to the school were children from whom one of the parents lived and worked in Ghana. At the Dutch school the children were expected to learn the Dutch language and culture as it is often not sufficient to teach this at home only. We were excited after all the information we got! But unfortunately there was no place for us to help volunteering.

In addition, we also saw some Dutch food! We were amazed they sell ‘’rode bieten’’ and ‘’spruiten’’ here in Ghana...maybe it is because ''De echte groenteboer'' drove all his way to Ghana?
