Taxi driver is lost!

1 december 2017 - Accra, Ghana

Our first trip to Accra! Our neighbor Sam was so gently to go with us and to give us a tour through Accra. We were eating some fried cassava at a local shop when a young man was watching us curiously. After a few minutes of staring he started to talk to Rachidatou. Thereafter Sam and Sara joined the conversation and Sam invited the new young man to go with us. We continued the day together, very spontaneously. At the end of the day we (trying to be independent girls) wanted to do some shopping together without the boys, thus we send them home. However...that is where the day ended in a disappearance in a maze (a.k.a. our village).

At night when we wanted to go home and we called the niece of Rachidatou’s mum to ask her the address of the home and for safety reasons she told us to ask a police officer near the Accra mall to search for a reliable taxi driver. Nonetheless the taxi driver got lost because our instructions were not clear enough. We were driving through our village (with bad roads and a lot of afforestation) in the middle of the night with a taxi driver. That doesn’t sound good right! We called Sam and Uncle to explain to the driver in the local language how to take us home.

At a certain point we all stepped out in a very quiet area with no one in sight. At that moment we were scared that something would happen. Luckily the driver was able to ask instructions to someone passing by. While we were driving home (the right direction this time!) we saw Sam waiting for us. He was very happy to see us and stepped in the taxi and we drove home together. When we arrived home all the household members were waiting for us in front of the house and they were all glad we arrived safely. The taxi driver asked for a very high price but at least he took us home safely.
