Visit to Jamestown

19 december 2017 - Accra, Ghana

We visited Jamestown together with uncle. Jamestown is one of the oldest districts in Accra and the main occupation of the inhabitants is fishing! Therefore, Jamestown is considered a fishing community. Although this fishing community is considered one of the poorer neighborhoods of Accra, it is still a popular tourist destination because of Jamestown’s colonial past. We went to see the Jamestown lighthouse which was built by the British and is 28 meters tall!

We also went to see the James Fort and the Jamestown beach. On the beach we saw a lot of (young men) preparing their boats to go catch fish at night. When the men go out on the sea, they return around 5 o’clock in the morning. At that time many business women come to buy fish for their shops. A lot of the fisherman were acquaintances of uncle therefore we were allowed to take a lot of pictures!
