Weddings in Africa

2 januari 2018 - Lomé, Togo

We had the opportunity to visit two weddings when we were in Ghana and Togo. In Togo we visited a christian wedding together with Rachidatou’s nieces. The wedding ceremony took place in a church and the festivities took place outside the church. In Togo it is (almost) everyday sunny so a lot of weddings take place outside. There was a lot of (live) music, food and dancing on the wedding. We did not dance ourselves but we definitely enjoyed the ambiance.

In Ghana we visited a muslim wedding together with the head nurse of the military hospital where we had our internship. We arrived a bit late on the wedding therefore we missed a part of the ceremony. Though we were able to experience the ambiance! The wedding started with an imam reading parts of the Quran in different dialects because there were people from different parts of Ghana visiting the wedding. After that it was time to eat. A lot of women were preparing food in the outside kitchen. Thereafter it was time for music and dancing! The bride changed her white dress to a beautiful yellow african dress (see the videos!).
